One year anniversary

It totally slipped my mind!  Last week was my one year anniversary of blogging!  How could one possibly forget something like that?  HA!!  It was a year ago that we decided to help pass the time of waiting to adopt by starting a blog.  We thought it would be a great way to not only pass the time but a way to keep family updated.  It wasn't long before we got THE CALL!!  After that we began to blog about our baby Spike.

Today was a big day for us.  Today we had our LAST meeting with our social worker, Louise.  She was here to check on Gus and to have us sign our final petition to the court.  (And to pick up our final check!)  Now it is just a matter of waiting for the Wayne County Courts to process the paperwork and send us the finalization.   When Louise came, she also brought with her a picture of Gus' birthfather.  I am so glad that there is at least one picture of him for Gus to have.  I am not sure how much, if any, contact we will ever have with him so it is nice that Gus will at least have a picture some day.  I want to be as prepared as possible for any questions Gus might have someday so I will stash it away for him...but I am glad that we have it.

It just amazes me that at this time last year, I didn't even know that I would be a mom so quickly.  I happened to be playing with Gus in the bathroom mirror.  I glanced up and noticed myself holding Gus.  Just still can't believe it...I am a MOMMA!!

Soooo Big!!!

My baby boy is getting SO BIG!!  We went to the doctor last week and Gus measured over 27 inches tall and 22 pounds!!  He is growing so quickly!  He is doing some really fun things, too.  Gus has started to clap!  So fun to watch.  He went to a cheer competition the other day and did a great job cheering my girls on with all of his clapping!!  He is also moving around quite a bit.  He knows how to crawl backwards and sideways...not forward.  It won't be long before he is running around!!  YIKES!!

Painful...

Today was our first day back to school.  I did not like it.  I was very spoiled with two weeks of Gus Gus time.  Not to mention that once we got there it was announced that there was a 2 hour delay.  We literally got an email five minutes prior to classes starting that said that the buses were going to be delayed 2 hours because they wouldn't start.  So the kids that were already there for the day would stay and go to class and the bus riders would join us in two hours.  Are you kidding me?!?  It was like a mass exodus for all of the kids that were already there.  I had one student in my first hour class...poor kid.

Gus also had a rough day.  He went back to Aunt Sarah's today and was super excited to see her!  Little did he know what was in store for the afternoon.  Aunt Sarah dropped Gus off to school so that Joel could take Gus right after school...to get shots.  Joel told Gus where they were going...Gus did not look amused.

BEFORE

"Daddy, wait...where are you taking me?!?!"

AFTER

"Daddy...I am not happy..."

All in all, a painful day for all of us...but we got through Monday.  We will see what Tuesday brings.

Super (down)Size 2010!

So I decided that instead of New Year's Resolutions for 2010 I am going to have two major goals.  I like to aim for goals.  A resolution always gets lost in my mind.

1)  Taking care of ME.  Of course God and my family come first but after that I am and going to focus on myself.  I need to learn how to say "no" and not take so much on.  I need to not stress myself out and run around like a crazy person.  I need to actually do my hair once and a while instead of just throwing it in a ponytail or running out of the house with it soaking wet.  I need to rid myself of some of the chaos and stress in my life that is unnecessary.  This of course is minor stuff, but nonetheless, a goal.

2)  The larger of the two goals is to DOWNSIZE!  I need to downsize in so many areas of my life.  As always, there is the goal to downsize the pant size. In addition to that traditional goal, I have a goal to downsize in other areas of my life.  I want to downsize the amount of unnecessary money we spend on silly things.  (I say "we" but we all know that we mean "me".)  This means fewer trips to Target.  That place always gets me in trouble.  I want to downsize the amount of items in our tiny little townhouse.  I started in the kitchen already and went through some of the cupboards and the pantry.  I plan to start tomorrow with my closet.

You can see here, that I can't even walk in our closet.  Three fourths of what you see in this picture is mine.  And yes, I have shoes that fill all of those shoe cubbies...they just are not properly put away.

And how many pairs of pants does a little boy need?  Yes, those are all pants that currently fit Gus.  YIKES!!

So we will see how it goes in 2010...but so far, I am off to a great start!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
