Just wait...here comes another edition of, "Beth is crazy!"
Today seemed like the longest Friday of all time. Long, crazy day with lots of student drama and discipline going on. Not to mention followed by a cheer practice where the girls were simply stir crazy and unfocused and the coaches (myself being one of them) were getting very frustrated. My friend, Diane, watched Gus for us today while I was at practice and Joel was helping to run a charity event. After practice, Diane, Gus and I ran some errands together. We finished up just in time for me to get Gus home for bedtime.
After wrestling with my 1 1/2 year old alligator to get him out of the carseat and he tried to slither out of my arms as we walked up to the house, I was finally able to let him run free once we walked through that front door. I casually took off my coat as Gus ran around like a mad man and I walked into the kitchen to hang up my coat and.....BOOM!!! There is was! The door leading from the kitchen into the garage was wide...I mean WIDE open. Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap!!!! (Okay....yes, I had some other choice words running through my head.) I snatched Gus up, grabbed my cell phone and ran out to the neighbor's driveway as I called my husband. (The neighbor is a police officer....I figured I could always have him come kick the intruder's arse if need be.)
I frantically called Joel to ask if he by chance left that door open. His response, much to my dismay, "ya know....I think I might have. I left in such a rush." ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? How do I know for sure? And why didn't I think to grab my coat? I am freezing. Should I go back in? Maybe I should make Aaron go check it out first. Should I call the cops? Am I being ridiculous? Am I overly paranoid? Maybe I should be more concerned? Many things went through my mind. Oh! And thank goodness I hadn't yet gotten Gus out of his coat. He was warm and at this point playing in the snow at the neighbor's house. After a lot of thought, we went back into the house. I set Gus down and I grabbed the broom in the kitchen and went around the house with a broom in one hand and my phone in the other with it already dialed to 9-1-...just in case. I kicked open every door, the shower curtain, looked under the bed and jumped in about in an effort to surprise the intruder and so that I could kick his/her arse with a broom.
Long story short....no intruder but my overactive imagination jumped into overdrive and I became a raving lunatic. But I still have my broom ready....just waiting for my husband, the door-leaver-opener, to arrive home. He better start running.....

DA- DOH
Lately my darling son has been really interested in his Dada. Really wants nothing to do with Momma. Almost every word out of that little mouth is Dada or Nunununun (for his "nunny" aka. pacifier). Joel claims that Gus does say Momma when I'm not around...but I'm skeptical. It's not that he hasn't said it because he used to say it...but it has been a while. Yesterday I picked up Gus after school. On the way home, we had our little daily conversation and I thought I would try to get him to say Momma.
I encourage him, "Momma".
...pause...
I try again, "Momma".
...pause...
"DADA!!"
Great. And it gets better. My son continues to say "Dadadadadada...." Then he switches to yelling...
"DA-DOH"
...and he hasn't stopped calling him "DA-DOH".

When It Rains, It Pours!
I am a firm believer that timing is everything...and the most stressful situations usually happen to me during a week when I have NO TIME! I am sure that this is God's way of telling me to slow down. This week is spirit week at school which for me means one of the craziest times of the year for me. In addition, we have parent teacher conferences and I have two cheer meets. Did I mention that Sarah, who watches Gus during the day, and her two kids all got the flu? And our two back-up sitters weren't available so Joel and I have been having to switch off and on for who was going to go to work and who was staying home with Gus. I am exhausted and it is only Wednesday. On top of all of this...Gus is sick. :(
Gus started to come down with what we thought was cold last week. As the week progressed, we noticed that it was getting worse. He would cough so hard that he would choke, he was constantly wheezing, he would wake himself (and Daddy) with his coughing and he would cry so it increased the coughing and he would cry harder. So Joel took the day off work on Monday and took Gus to the doctor. Turns out, Gus has bronchiolitis. Mayo Clinic says that, "Bronchiolitis occurs when a virus enters the respiratory system and makes its way to the bronchioles, causing them to become inflamed and swollen. As a result, mucus often collects in these airways, which can make it difficult for air to flow freely through your lungs." I learned that bronchiolitis is common in kids between the ages of 3 to 9 months...check. It is also common among non-breastfed babies...check. It is more common for boys to have it than girls...check. All three of those describe Gus. The doctor gave Gus a breathing treatment at the office and prescribed antibiotics and steroids. We go back on Monday for follow up. I hope it goes away soon because I hate seeing him cough so hard. Luckily, it is not keeping him down...
Does this kid look sick to you?!?

Too funny!
So last night I had the opportunity to go to the Scholastic Book Warehouse with my sister-in-law, Sarah and my friend, Diane. We found some great deals on some really fun books! After dropping them off, I called Joel on my way home to see what Gus was up to. In typical Gus Gus form, he was fighting going to sleep and causing a little bit of trouble. Joel said, "You'll never believe what your son did to me..." Typical things came to mind...spit up, pee, etc. Apparently Gus took his nunny (pacifier) out of his mouth and seemed to shake it at Joel's face. Although I know that this isn't something that Gus was aware of, it still made me laugh pretty hard to think about Gus doing that to Joel. "Listen here, Dada, I am not going to sleep!" What a little stinker!!
