Just wait...here comes another edition of, "Beth is crazy!"
Today seemed like the longest Friday of all time. Long, crazy day with lots of student drama and discipline going on. Not to mention followed by a cheer practice where the girls were simply stir crazy and unfocused and the coaches (myself being one of them) were getting very frustrated. My friend, Diane, watched Gus for us today while I was at practice and Joel was helping to run a charity event. After practice, Diane, Gus and I ran some errands together. We finished up just in time for me to get Gus home for bedtime.
After wrestling with my 1 1/2 year old alligator to get him out of the carseat and he tried to slither out of my arms as we walked up to the house, I was finally able to let him run free once we walked through that front door. I casually took off my coat as Gus ran around like a mad man and I walked into the kitchen to hang up my coat and.....BOOM!!! There is was! The door leading from the kitchen into the garage was wide...I mean WIDE open. Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap!!!! (Okay....yes, I had some other choice words running through my head.) I snatched Gus up, grabbed my cell phone and ran out to the neighbor's driveway as I called my husband. (The neighbor is a police officer....I figured I could always have him come kick the intruder's arse if need be.)
I frantically called Joel to ask if he by chance left that door open. His response, much to my dismay, "ya know....I think I might have. I left in such a rush." ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!? How do I know for sure? And why didn't I think to grab my coat? I am freezing. Should I go back in? Maybe I should make Aaron go check it out first. Should I call the cops? Am I being ridiculous? Am I overly paranoid? Maybe I should be more concerned? Many things went through my mind. Oh! And thank goodness I hadn't yet gotten Gus out of his coat. He was warm and at this point playing in the snow at the neighbor's house. After a lot of thought, we went back into the house. I set Gus down and I grabbed the broom in the kitchen and went around the house with a broom in one hand and my phone in the other with it already dialed to 9-1-...just in case. I kicked open every door, the shower curtain, looked under the bed and jumped in about in an effort to surprise the intruder and so that I could kick his/her arse with a broom.
Long story short....no intruder but my overactive imagination jumped into overdrive and I became a raving lunatic. But I still have my broom ready....just waiting for my husband, the door-leaver-opener, to arrive home. He better start running.....

100!!!
TA-DA!!!
My 100th blog post!!! That seems a little bit crazy to me that I have posted so much! Thanks for reading my ramblings.
Remember how I mentioned our fuss-a-lup-a-GUS? Well, I finally figured out why. Turns out that he is cutting MORE teeth! Before school got out he had 4 front teeth and 3 bottom teeth. He now has 6 on the bottom, including his molars. And as of this week, he cut the 2 top molars so he now has 6 on the top. That's 12 teeth!! This kid is going to be gnawing on steak before we know it!
In bigger news, my mornings with Gus took a turn today. I have talked before about how much I love my mornings with my munchkin. Today I heard a little voice bright and early. I needed just a few more minutes so I brought him back to bed with me. He snuggled so sweetly with me like he used to when he wasn't yet mobile.
That only lasted a few minutes and I was just "resting my eyes" when I felt a little monkey start to move. As I opened my eyes, I saw a little face peeking back at me with a giant smile on his face....and then it happened. Two little hands moved to my tummy and started to wiggle around as the owner of those hands said "tickle, tickle, tickle!!" (or something that sounds pretty close to that) and let out a huge belly laugh! So apparently he has learned to tickle me back. Sneaky little monkey!! So of course I tickled him back. This continued for about 20 minutes but it was totally worth waking up early for it!

No More Monkeys Jumping on the Bed!!
Well, we had the first of I'm sure many scary events in Gus' life. We made our first trip to the emergency room for him. Gus and I were upstairs in my room and unfortunately he got away from me too quickly and took a nose dive off the bed onto his head!! I spoke with the pediatrician and she said that we should keep and eye on him and gave us signs to look for. One of those signs was vomit. About 15 minutes after I hung up with the doctor, Gus started to throw up. So off to the ER we went. The monitored him and checked him out. They even gave him a popscicle...his first. They sent us on our way and told us to wake him up every two hours throughout the night to check on him. We'll just put it this way...he is one angry little man when you wake him up.

Oh crap....
....literally. It finally happened...my son pooped on the carpet in the middle of having his diaper changed.
I am sure this is one of the many gross things that I will encounter as a mom. I should probably invest in a carpet cleaner.
On the upside, we went back to the doctor today and Gus got the clean bill of health. No more bronchiolitis! I am thrilled about that and thrilled that he doesn't need anymore antibiotics. The antibiotics did not sit well with our little man. :( Yahoo! No more sickness!

When It Rains, It Pours!
I am a firm believer that timing is everything...and the most stressful situations usually happen to me during a week when I have NO TIME! I am sure that this is God's way of telling me to slow down. This week is spirit week at school which for me means one of the craziest times of the year for me. In addition, we have parent teacher conferences and I have two cheer meets. Did I mention that Sarah, who watches Gus during the day, and her two kids all got the flu? And our two back-up sitters weren't available so Joel and I have been having to switch off and on for who was going to go to work and who was staying home with Gus. I am exhausted and it is only Wednesday. On top of all of this...Gus is sick. :(
Gus started to come down with what we thought was cold last week. As the week progressed, we noticed that it was getting worse. He would cough so hard that he would choke, he was constantly wheezing, he would wake himself (and Daddy) with his coughing and he would cry so it increased the coughing and he would cry harder. So Joel took the day off work on Monday and took Gus to the doctor. Turns out, Gus has bronchiolitis. Mayo Clinic says that, "Bronchiolitis occurs when a virus enters the respiratory system and makes its way to the bronchioles, causing them to become inflamed and swollen. As a result, mucus often collects in these airways, which can make it difficult for air to flow freely through your lungs." I learned that bronchiolitis is common in kids between the ages of 3 to 9 months...check. It is also common among non-breastfed babies...check. It is more common for boys to have it than girls...check. All three of those describe Gus. The doctor gave Gus a breathing treatment at the office and prescribed antibiotics and steroids. We go back on Monday for follow up. I hope it goes away soon because I hate seeing him cough so hard. Luckily, it is not keeping him down...
Does this kid look sick to you?!?

Painful...
Today was our first day back to school. I did not like it. I was very spoiled with two weeks of Gus Gus time. Not to mention that once we got there it was announced that there was a 2 hour delay. We literally got an email five minutes prior to classes starting that said that the buses were going to be delayed 2 hours because they wouldn't start. So the kids that were already there for the day would stay and go to class and the bus riders would join us in two hours. Are you kidding me?!? It was like a mass exodus for all of the kids that were already there. I had one student in my first hour class...poor kid.
Gus also had a rough day. He went back to Aunt Sarah's today and was super excited to see her! Little did he know what was in store for the afternoon. Aunt Sarah dropped Gus off to school so that Joel could take Gus right after school...to get shots. Joel told Gus where they were going...Gus did not look amused.
BEFORE
"Daddy, wait...where are you taking me?!?!"
AFTER
"Daddy...I am not happy..."
All in all, a painful day for all of us...but we got through Monday. We will see what Tuesday brings.
