So those of you who I have spoken to lately know that I am totally freaked out about the umbilical cord that has been attached to my son for the last 18 days. Well, today it finally fell off.
We were getting ready to take Gus to the doctor for his 2 week check up. Joel was in the shower and I took Gus into his room to change his diaper and get him dressed. After changing his diaper I picked him up to lay down the new clothes for the day out under him. When I laid him back down...it was gone!!!! I was wearing a black sundress today and I was very concered that I had an umbilical cord stuck to me. So like any irrational new mom, I started yelling for my husband to come help me. Being the good husband, Joel jumped out of the shower, quickly threw a towel around himself and came to my rescue. But instead of taking this situation to the same serious extent that I did, Joel proceeded to laugh hysterically at me. I told him that nobody was leaving until that cord was found! Luckily Joel found it quickly on the changing pad. And once he did, I proceeded to try to keep my breakfast down. SO GROSSED OUT!!
We only arrived two minutes late to the doctors office. She thought the story was pretty funny as well. I am sure this is one of the many times that my son will gross me out...not sure if I will ever get used to that.
On a fun note- Gus now weighs 9 lbs 11 oz. Exactly a pound more than his birthweight. What a chunky monkey!!

Bliss
I really only feel the need to comment on one of these. The rest are pretty easy to figure out. Joel and Gus took a little nap together and there was a light that shone in Joel's eyes...so he put on his sunglasses. That's my silly husband for you...but it is those things that make me love him even more!!
GUS!!
Augustus John Martin Stapleton entered the world today. He was born at 10:53 AM via c-section. He is weighing in at 8lbs, 11oz and is 20" long. He is a healthy, beautiful little boy. We are beyond excited and we are head over heels in love with Gus.
I got to go into the c-section today for Gus' birth. Unfortunately I had to leave the room twice since I felt so lightheaded...but J did great. She was such a trooper. I felt bad that I couldn't even handle sitting next to her and here she was going through major surgery.
We were lucky that the hospital had an extra room for us to spend the day in. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to spend the night. And FYI, yes, I am devastated by that but I am trying to put a positive spin on it right now. At least I will get once last night to try to sleep through the night. Plus we left just before his cirucumcision...I am sure that he is pretty angry about that procedure. We get to go back in the morning. We hope that we are able to bring him home tomorrow. There has been talk that he might have to stay the same amount of time as J. Since she had a c-section she has to stay a couple of days. We will find out for sure tomorrow.
Please keep praying for us. We are not out of the woods for another 7 months when the adoption becomes final. We originally started this blog to record the adoption process that we were going through, but we will continue to post updates as Gus grows up.
I'm going to crash since I want to be up bright and early to go get my son. AHH!!! I'm a MOMMY!!!
